Thermal Protections No active thermal control is on board on Vega (unless stand-off on ground phases) Passive thermal control is implemented. The main components are: - External Thermal Protection: Insulating material (low density silicon based rubber) plus a conductive paint fixed by bonding film. - Base Covers: Nextel® based flexible blankets to protect the aft region of stages - 4th Stage Multi-Layered Insulation (MLI) Aluminised Kapton® and silica fabric MLI to protect EMAs, the liquid and gas (GN2, He) tanks - Surface coatings, thermal filler and decoupling shims |
